Last Friday, May 19th, the Student Services Coordinator emailed ALL District 67 parents of children with a 504 plan containing information that could be used to identify Lake Forest children receiving Special Education services.

As you can imagine, this has been a nightmare for many children and their families, who sadly often agonize over the decision to utilize special education services over a perception that there is a social stigma that accompanies a "special education label."
In response to this grave privacy breach- which may have violated the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act- we have received many emails and phone calls from parents directly affected, as well as parents that want to know what District 67 and 115 are doing to protect their child's confidential data.
As an organization devoted to parental advocacy and school district accountability, we want you to know that we are doing everything in our power to determine how this happened and what steps are being taken to ensure something like this does not happen again.
While we will communicate any official response we receive, Superintendent Matthew Montgomery must address these concerns directly to parents.
We have asked him to do so.
Thank you for reaching out to us, and we hope to be able to provide you with more information shortly.
