These are certainly unacceptable scores, especially for a community that contributes so many resources to our schools.
It does not have to be this way, but change will require focused school leadership that actively pursues accountability. We again call on school boards, administrations, and faculty to articulate specific academic proficiency performance goals for each of the next five years. This has to be the undisputed priority until these trends are rectified.
These districts must be accountable to parents and the community.
This Thanksgiving, we express our gratitude to those educators dedicated to pushing our children to meet their potential. We are especially grateful to see Lake Forest District 67's recent efforts to increase attendance.
We’ve seen full well the last few years the devastating impact classroom absences can have on students’ education. Let’s do our part to ensure our kids are taking absences only when necessary.
