Call your state representative and ask
them to support Amendment #1346!
State Representative Ruth Balser has filed an amendment to
the state budget that would cut the money from the DOE that pays for the
administration of the MCAS (about 25 million dollars) and replaces it with a two
million dollar appropriation for the purpose of developing "authentic student
and school assessments in order to replace the current Massachusetts
Comprehensive Assessment System."
Sponsors and co-sponsors include: Sponsor Ruth Balser (Newton), along
with co-sponsors: Frank Smizik (Brookline), Kay Khan (Newton), Ann Gobi
(Spencer), Ellen Story (Amherst), Deb Blumer (Framingham), Byron Rushing
(Boston), Mark Falzone (Saugus).
Please call your State Representeative to support and
co-sponsor amendment #1347.
When you call, please point out that 25 million dollars
worth of really important educational programs that have been cut in this budget
(such as the reduction in class size program, not to mention Chapter 70) and
argue that there are better ways to spend 25 million dollars, given this tight
fiscal situation, than to administer a test.
Contact Rep. Balser’s office 617-722-2400 to co-sponsor the bill.
